The Thames Estuary is the UK’s number one opportunity for good, green growth.
The Thames Estuary Growth Board, led by our government-appointed Envoy, Kate Willard OBE, is driving forward our action plan: “The Green Blue”.
Situated on a multi-functional river and globally recognised landmark, the Thames Estuary offers unique advantages for businesses. Our proximity to London and excellent transport links mean we offer better connectivity and access than anywhere else in the UK.
The Thames Estuary covers North Kent, South Essex and East London, as well as the Thames itself. There are 17 local authority areas, these are: Barking, Basildon, Bexley, Canterbury, Castle Point, Dagenham, Dartford, Gravesham, Greenwich, Havering, Maidstone, Medway, Newham, Rochford, Southend-on-Sea, Swale, Thanet, and Thurrock.
Backed by the UK government, we have the connections to support many industries, including freight, transport, logistics, tourism, health, life sciences, hydrogen, culture, construction and manufacturing.
Vital to the Thames Estuary Growth Board plan is green growth through sustainable transport and energy. We are backing key projects such as the Lower Thames Crossing, Dagenham Docks, Thamesmead, Tilbury 2, plus improved usage of the river’s piers and wharves to regenerate the Thames Estuary and boost connectivity.
We are spearheading the development of decarbonisation technologies across the region, offering unique, viable access for international trade.
Our vision for The Green Blue extends beyond sustainability. We will improve and maintain the Thames Estuary’s beautiful green spaces, making them accessible for everyone and championing the visitor economy.
Through the continued work of our growth board and our envoy, we will transform the Thames Estuary.
